TARGETED myoActivation is a condensed adaptation of the myoActivation® methodology that has been developed to provide a rapid algorithmic approach to assessment and treatment of common clinical presentations of pain and movement impairments in the emergency department.
TARGETED stands for Test-Activate-Retest to Guide Efficient Treatment in the ED
Assessment involves a brief history followed by 1 to 4 relevant standardized tests of anatomical function. Treatment entails low risk, non-pharmaceutical needle insertions into dysfunctional soft tissues. TARGETED myoActivation may reduce the need for investigations in many patients and facilitates significantly reduced time to pain improvement allowing improved patient flow and satisfaction.
The workshop will focus on learning both rapid biomechanical assessment and hands-on treatment skills in paired practice exercises. Each participant takes turns in being the needler and needlee. No medication is injected.
Pre-reading will entail 2.0 hours in preparation for the 7.0 instructional hours in the workshop. There will be an instructor:participant ratio of 1:4 or 1:2 pairs in the practice exercises.
Instructors for this workshop will be Greg Siren MD CCFP FCFP and Andrew Jeffery MD CCFP(EM).
